About Photography by The Comtesse DeSpair

Photographic Meanderings of a Disturbed Mind

The Comtesse DeSpair first began indulging in her photographic hobby seriously while a morose, withdrawn, suicidal high school student in Northern Catatonia circa 1983. After several years of feverish 35 millimeter activity, she tossed aside the camera for more than a decade before picking it up again recently. This photoblog is dedicated to her documentation of the grim side of life: abandoned buildings, city grime, cemeteries, tragic locales, and the like.

Equipment

The Comtesse is most fond of her Holga 120N cheap plastic piece of crap, but she also utilizes a Canon Digital Rebel XT for much of her urban exploration photography. Additional equipment includes a Pentax K1000 35 mm camera, a vintage 1952 Brownie Hawkeye Flash, a vintage 1948 Ferrania Rondine box camera, and a 1962 Brownie Starmite.

Although this blog showcases the dark & gritty side of The Comtesse, she is known to occasionally indulge in photography of a less grim subject matter. To see the complete picture, please visit her Flickr page:
